There is a certain freedom living on the edge of the wilderness. Living away from modern amenities gives a certain clarity, an appreciation of life, it’s rhythms and necessities.
An experiment in permaculture, the Terlingua Oasis Project occupies 40 acres of desert in West Texas. The residents work with indigenous plants, tweaking the landscape to maximize the use of runoff for local plant life.
These pictures show the results of their efforts, as well as the few structures that provide relief from the relentless sun.
